LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Officials in the western Nebraska town of Sidney have announced plans that could ease the community’s housing shortage caused, in part, by the employment demands of outdoor outfitter Cabela’s.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/VcHiS5) that officials that about 480 acres of land near the town will be developed to accommodate hundreds of new homes, as well as parks, trails and commercial property.

Additionally, Sidney Regional Medical Center has announced plans to build a new medical facility in the area.

City officials estimate the value of the multiyear project at $400 million or more. Cabela’s recently bought or has options on most of the development site.

Cabela’s is based in Sidney and has nearly 2,000 employees there.
