In a late-night tweet, President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani praised Lanny Davis for his withdrawal of comments reported on CNN.
“Davis is covering for Cohen as he should. Davis did right thing in recanting. Davis has more integrity than CNN. They want to get Trump at the cost of their ever diminishing reputation,” he wrote.

Davis, who represents Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen, admitted earlier this week to being the anonymous source behind a CNN report about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer regarding dirt on then-candidate Hillary Clinton.
CNN reported that Cohen witnessed a discussion between Trump Jr. and his father about the meeting before it happened, and would tell that to special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian meddling in the election. Davis later said he did not know whether his client could confirm the discussion between the president and Trump Jr. and should not have confirmed it to CNN.
CNN has stood by its story, even as Trump has attacked the outlet and one of the report’s writers, Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein.
