Democratic impeachment witness Pamela Karlan took aim at President Trump during the impeachment hearings by bringing up the president’s youngest son, 13-year-old Barron Trump.
“The Constitution doesn’t allow titles of nobility,” the Stanford law professor said Wednesday when asked how Trump should differ from a king. “So, while the president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron.”
Karlan’s comment was largely derided for bringing a child into a discussion about impeachment. “How vile of a person do you have to be to attack a 13 year old child on national TV for laughs?” Donald Trump Jr., the brother of Barron, said on Twitter. “Apparently, vile enough to be the supposed star witness for Democrats. Grotesque.”
First lady Melania Trump defended her son on Twitter, writing, “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”

Karlan’s “Barron” joke. Rolling my eyes so hard. Cripes.

The line about Barron wasn’t really an attack on the president’s son, but it was dumb, and gratuitous, nowhere near as clever and funny as she seemed to think it was.
