The Senate voted Thursday to advance President Trump’s nominee to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the top agency responsible for implementing Obamacare.

The Senate voted to end debate on the nomination of Seema Verma by 54-44, setting up a final confirmation vote that is likely to be held next week.

Verma is not favored by Senate Democrats, and voted against her in the Senate Finance Committee last week.

CMS oversees the government’s Medicare and Medicaid insurance programs for seniors and low-income families, and parts of the Affordable Care Act that the Trump administration and congressional Republicans are trying to dismantle.
