At least 2 dead after truck driven into crowd in Stockholm

At least two people are dead and several people have been injured after someone drove a truck drove into a crowd in Stockholm Friday, according to multiple reports. One person has been placed under arrest.

The BBC confirmed with police that the incident occurred in the central part of the Swedish capital Friday. Multiple injuries were reported, but the severity of the incident wasn’t immediately clear.

As of 9:35 a.m. Friday, the Associated Press reported Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said two people were killed in the attack. Initial reports indicated three people had been killed.

Gunshots were also fired, according to the AP.

The street is for pedestrians only and isn’t supposed to have vehicle traffic, according to the BBC.

Lofven said all indications point to the incident being a terrorist attack, according to the AP.

“Sweden has been attacked,” Lofven said. “This indicates that it is an act of terror.”

Lofvren told reporters one person had been arrested in connection with the attack.

The AP reported the truck sticking out of the building was a beer truck and a Swedish beer company reported earlier in the day that one of its vehicles had been carjacked.


Images on social media showed the truck was driven into a building in the central part of the city. Video from Stockholm showed people running from the area.
