A federal judge on Wednesday gave the D.C. Ward 5 councilman until July 1 to respond to allegations that he hasn’t paid more than $15,000 on student loans incurred in 1983 and ‘84, plus interest and fees. The government says Thomas repeatedly failed to respond to attempts to collect the loan money.
In a separate lawsuit, Thomas has been accused of using for his personal benefit more than $300,000 of city cash meant for a youth baseball program.
