Arrests have been made in two recent Prince George’s County killings.

Police said a Landover teenager is in custody for allegedly shooting a man to death at an elementary school basketball court and a District man is charged in a fatal Capitol Heights shooting.

Savon Blanchard, 17, turned himelf into police on Thursday in connection with the May 31 slaying of Alusine Kargbo, according to Prince George’s County police. Kargbo, 23, of Lanham, was shot to death while playing basketball at Carrollton Elementary School, located on the 8300 block of Quintana Street in New Carrollton.

Police say Blanchard approached the court while Kargbo and others were playing and fired shots at about 8:45 p.m. Kargbo and the people he was playing with didn’t know their assailant, police said. Kargbo was taken to a hospital, where he later died. No one else was injured. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Blanchard is charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the county jail without bond.

In a separate shooting death, police said 26-year-old Steven Waytes was arrested in the slaying of 34-year-old Jimmie Lee Hunter. Hunter, of Temple Hills, was found shot to death on the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue at about 7:25 p.m. on May 27.

Waytes, of Southeast D.C., was arrested in the District without incident. Court records show he was extradited to Maryland on Friday and is charged with second-degree murder, assault and use of a handgun in crime of violence.
