Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., plans to ask White House senior adviser Jared Kushner during the House Intelligence Committee’s Tuesday meeting if he is aware of anyone from outside President Trump’s campaign that communicated with the Russians.
“Mr. Kushner said he had no improper contacts with the Russians — doesn’t know of anyone else connected with the campaign. I’m going to take the word ‘campaign’ out of that statement and ask the same question, ‘Do you know of anyone who is not officially with the campaign that had contact with the Russians,'” Gowdy told Fox News “America’s Newsroom.”
Gowdy, leading the committee’s Russia investigation in place of Chairman Devin Nunes, said if Trump’s son-in-law admits he is aware of someone who corresponded with Russia, he would then need to know the nature of their conversation.
“There’s first-hand knowledge and then there’s second-hand knowledge. He testified he had no first-hand knowledge. We will get into the secondary and tertiary contacts,” Gowdy said.
Gowdy, who led the House Intelligence Committee probe into Benghazi, said he does not have reason to believe Kushner has contradicted himself on anything and appeared genuinely disinterested in the June 9, 2016, meeting Donald Trump Jr. looped him into attending.
Kushner appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee in a closed-door meeting Monday.
