A jogger was killed after he apparently was struck by a falling tree branch in Mount Pleasant early Wednesday morning.
D.C. Fire and Rescue crews were called to the 3200 block of Adams Mill Road at about 6:30 a.m., and took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounceded dead.
The victim’s name has not been released, but ANC member Jack McKay said the victim was “a top-notch athlete.” The man was out on a morning run when he passed under and elm tree just as the branch gave way, McKay said. The branch was not large, but it fell from a high place, he said.
D.C. police took over the investigation the death report, and homicide detectives were attempting to make notice of next of kin, a spokeswoman said.
