Two men found deceased after Monday’s mid-air plane collision in Fauquier County have been identified, police said.
The deceased victims were James M. Duncan, 60, of Bethesda and Paul Gardella, Jr., 57, of Burke, Virginia State Police said. Duncan was the pilot of the plane they were in, a BE-35.
The pilot of the other plane, 70-year-old Thomas R. Proven, survived the crash but was injured, police said.
Proven, who was piloting a Piper PA-28, was an employee of the Federal Aviation Administration, officials said. Duncan was an employee of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Canadian authorites are investigating the crash because the incident involved NTSB and FAA employees.
