Ivana Trump, the president’s first wife, now says she doesn’t want to be first lady, a day after causing a commotion with first lady Melania Trump.
During an interview that aired Tuesday on “Fox and Friends,” Ivana Trump was asked if she ever looks at “Melania being the first lady and think that’s where I should be?”
“Not at all. Washington it’s tough, tough town,” she responded.
“I’m glad that Melania is there and I’m here,” she continued, saying she turned down President Trump’s offer to be U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic because she enjoys her freedom.
Ivana Trump claimed in an interview that aired Monday that she was “first lady” because she was the president’s first wife.
“I have the direct number to White House, but I no really want to call him there because Melania is there,” Ivana Trump said.
“I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that,” she continued, “because I’m basically first Trump wife. I’m first lady, OK?”
Melania Trump’s spokesman released a fiery statement in response.
“[First lady Melania Trump] plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books. There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise,” spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said.
Ivana Trump is promoting her book, Raising Trump, released Tuesday. The book documents her marriage to the future president and raising their three children — Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric.
