Alec Baldwin rips cancel culture: ‘No code. Just destroy.’

Alec Baldwin slammed “cancel culture,” saying it is no longer focused on accountability but likened it to a “forest fire” that can only “destroy.”

“Cancel culture is like a forest fire in constant need of fuel. Functioning objectively. No prejudice. No code. Just destroy. The deserving and the undeserving alike,” the actor said on Twitter.

The remarks come a day after he seemed to subtweet the movement in an initial tweet in which he criticized members of Congress.

“There appears to be a zero-tolerance policy for bad behavior everywhere except where it matters most: the US Congress,” he wrote in a tweet without directly identifying cancel culture.

This is not Baldwin’s first clash with cancel culture — which has ended political careers, resulted in the firings of Hollywood celebrities, and terminated sponsorship agreements for media personalities.

In March, the 63-year-old actor uploaded a lengthy video to his Instagram specifically calling out cancel culture and criticizing its ferocity.

The actor deleted the video and uploaded a shorter one where he described the cultural movement as “getting out of hand.”

“I think my last message went on too long. What I was saying is that I think that the cancel culture is getting out of hand,” Baldwin said. “There are people that deserve to be punished for what they have done, but not everybody should be punished in the same way.”

“Not everybody should be punished in the same way. Even the criminal justice system recognizes that,” he continued.

Baldwin’s remarks were spurred by the backlash he received for defending fellow actor Woody Allen and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Baldwin’s criticism of cancel culture also comes as the Baldwin family was personally affected.

Last year, the actor’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was at the center of a viral controversy after it was found out that she lied about her Spanish heritage.
