Dulles, Reagan add more restaurants, improve customer service

Besides handling the seasonal rush of vacationers flying to their summer getaways, Reagan National and Dulles International airports have added several customer service features and restaurants in the past two months.

For example, passengers at Reagan National now are able to call the airport’s information booth from new courtesy telephones that have been installed throughout the terminals.

Officials also have been looking for ways to prevent long lines that can delay flights. To speed the lines at Reagan National’s checkpoints, a fourth security lane was added on July 20.

“The additional line helps us move passengers through security screening faster,” said Courtney Prebich, a spokeswoman for the authority that runs Dulles and National airports.

“That is especially helpful in the summer when it is busy.”

For hungry travelers, several establishments have opened at National that offer differing dining options. Einstein Bros. Bagels, Famous Famiglia Pizzeria and Gordon Biersch have opened locations for customers who already have passed throughthe security checkpoints. Cibo Bistro and Wine Bar has opened outside of the checkpoints in Terminal C, where it is accessible to everyone. Only travelers with boarding passes are allowed beyond the security area.

At Dulles, the lost-and-found office has relocated to an area across from Baggage Claim No. 1, where airport officials believe it will be more accessible to passengers. The office has extended its hours and is now open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays.

Dulles officials are asking motorists to use caution when driving through construction zones north of the airport, where a project to improve entrance and exit ramps is under way.

The speed limit is 25 mph in the work zone. The project is expected to last until the spring.
