Snoozester wants to give college kids a wake-up call.
The Rockville-based company has been offering customized wake-up calls for individual clients since 2005, according to President Neville Mehra. Individuals sign up for a monthly plan or a prepaid number of calls, somewhat similar to a cell phone, he said.

After discovering many of its subscribers were college students, the company decided to offer a special service for colleges, Mehra said. Universities will pay to set up the service for their students, who will get it free of charge.
“Students’ budgets tend to be tight, and they’re definitely a demographic known for sleeping in and being up late the night before,” Mehra said, adding the service can help students keep on top of erratic class schedules.
Mehra said he believes universities will go for the service as one of many unique ways to distinguish themselves in the area of student services.
“They’re all looking to do something just a little bit different,” Mehra said. High Point University in North Carolina was the first school to sign up for the service.
Customers choose Snoozester rather than just use an alarm in their clock or cell phone because the service can be customized and is more entertaining (messages can include amusing voices or messages), and individuals don’t have to remember to set an alarm daily, he said.
Individual Snoozester plans start at about $4 a month, he said. The company is considering looking at advertising as another possible revenue stream. Snoozester also works with businesses that offer the service as a company perk and partners with other companies on marketing campaigns.
