Despite probe, Clinton keeps her clearance

Amid an FBI investigation into the alleged mishandling of highly classified materials, Hillary Clinton retains a security clearance that allows her access to classified documents.

Clinton’s security clearance was renewed upon her departure from the State Department in 2013, according to a report by McClatchy.

National security experts say officials typically lose their clearances if any allegations about their abuse of classified material are raised, let alone if they face a full-scale investigation.

Clinton transmitted 188 emails on her personal email network that have been marked classified by the State Department. The agency has argued that unrelated circumstances warranted retroactive classification in each of the 188 cases, and that none should have been considered classified at the time they were sent or received.

But the inspector general for the intelligence community has insisted some of the emails were indeed classified when they were written, even if they were never marked as such.

Clinton maintains everything she did in regard to her emails was “above board” and “allowed” by federal regulations.

The State Department is set to release a new batch of Clinton’s emails Wednesday afternoon amid increasing scrutiny over her past statements about the server, some of which have been proven false by more recent developments.
