Sanders: Clinton ‘not good enough’ on Wall Street

Bernie Sanders said Hillary Clinton’s answer to questions about her Wall Street ties was “not good enough” during the second Democratic debate Saturday evening.

“Why over her career has Wall Street been the major contributor to Hillary Clinton?” Sanders said after Clinton ducked a question about accepting millions of dollars from big banks. “Maybe they are dumb, but I don’t think so.”

“The business model of Wall Street is fraud,” Sanders added.

The Vermont senator suggested Clinton would be beholden to the demands of the banking industry because she has built much of her political career off its generosity.

But Clinton dismissed that idea, vowing instead to reign in the financial sector.

“My proposal is tougher, more effective and comprehensive because I go after all of Wall Street, not just the big banks,” Clinton said.

She noted that many of her contribution are from small donors, and touted the fact that many are women.

However, “small individual contributions” make up just 17 percent of her overall donations this cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
