Hillary Clinton’s campaign expressed relief that the private email server controversy could be put to rest after the FBI announced Tuesday it was recommending no charges be brought.
“We are pleased that the career official handling this case have determined that no further action by the Department is appropriate,” Hillary for America spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement. “As the secretary has long said, it was a mistake to use her personal email and she would not do it again. We are glad this matter is now resolved.”
FBI Director James Comey delivered the verdict Tuesday morning, concluding that while Clinton was “careless” with classified materials, there would be “no reasonable” basis for prosecution. While the FBI delivered this information, Clinton spoke to a teachers union in Washington, D.C..
While on the campaign trail, Clinton has repeatedly said she “looked forward” to getting the email server issue “resolved quickly.”
