Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) called on embattled Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) to drop out of his House race over allegations of domestic abuse from his wife and daughter.
Husted had previously held off on condemning Miller, telling Statehouse News Bureau last week that he doesn’t “have any information about him” when pressed on the matter. He reversed course on Thursday, calling on him to step down, but couching his call with ambiguity about the truth of the allegations.

“Anyone who commits domestic violence is not fit to serve in Congress,” Husted posted on X. “The House Ethics Committee should thoroughly investigate any credible allegations, and any member found to have committed domestic violence should resign from Congress immediately.”
He related that he knew both Miller and his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), and felt sad that their personal lives became a public matter. The junior Ohio senator then pitched why Miller should drop out without making a judgment on whether or not the allegations were true.
“Given everything they are facing, I do not see how a campaign for Congress benefits any of them,” he said. “I believe Max would be making the right decision to step aside as a candidate and resign from Congress to focus on what is in the best interest of his daughter. Years from now, I believe he will look back and know it was the right choice for her.”
With Husted’s call, both senators from Ohio are now calling on Miller to drop out, with Bernie Moreno saying Miller needs “serious psychological help.”
President Donald Trump, who attended the wedding of Moreno and Miller, has voiced sadness over the matter, however, saying he would leave it to the two families to work out.
“I know Max. He’s a good person. I mean, I always thought he was a very good person, and I’m going to let the families figure that out,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “Those families, I know they’re working on it. It’s a very sad thing, especially when you know somebody so well, to be going through that. But it’s accusations, and I’m going to let them figure that out.”
Miller and Emily Moreno are in the middle of a custody battle over their daughter, who was born during their brief marriage from 2022 to 2024. As part of the custody battle, thousands of court documents have emerged documenting allegations of verbal and physical abuse from Miller against his ex-wife, his daughter, and drug abuse.
Among the allegations against Miller is that he scalded Emily Moreno’s chest with hot water from a skillet, held a gun to her head, pushed her against a wall, and that he fractured their daughter’s collarbone.
Miller has denied all the charges and blamed them on his wife’s mental health struggles.
