Lauren Boebert (R-CO) defended her seat during the primary elections on Tuesday, fending off her more centrist challenger state Sen. Don Coram to win the GOP nomination for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.

Boebert, a Republican firebrand and Trump’s favored candidate in the race, had generated a flurry of headlines in the days leading up to the primary, particularly for comments she made that she was “tired” of “this separation of church and state junk.” The freshman incumbent had faced several challengers for the GOP nomination, receiving criticism for her inflammatory comments during her first term.

The primary election was Boebert’s first challenge to defend her seat after being elected to Congress in 2020, and her victory marked another win for former President Donald Trump, who endorsed the incumbent. Boebert also faced a heavy challenge from state Democrats, as several switched party affiliations ahead of the primary to support her challenger.

However, Boebert managed to outraise Coram, leaning on her far-right stances to raise money from outside groups. The Republican incumbent has taken pride in being a lightning rod within the GOP and has been a strong supporter of Trump.
