Bruce Blakeman is unusually centrist for a Republican hailed as “MAGA all the way” by President Donald Trump.

He supports abortion access for women and a path to legal status for certain illegal immigrants. In fact, it’s a core part of his political identity as he runs for governor of New York, a decidedly blue state. Blakeman notes that as the chief executive of Nassau, he represents a county on Long Island where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans — and that he’s won there twice.
