An Arnold man was found dead on the front steps to his residence after a fatal fall that Anne Arundel police believe was accidental.
Erik Blane Ayers, 52, was discovered about 8:15 p.m. Saturday lying at the bottom of his steps in 1100 block of Gray Moss Court where he appeared to have been dead for some time, police said Tuesday.

Investigators said they believe Ayers was carrying groceries, apparently fell backward and struck his head on the sidewalk about 11 p.m. Friday after a cab driver dropped him off at his residence.
Police could not determine whether Ayers died as a result of the head injury or exposure to the cold.
The State Medical Examiners Office in Baltimore is conducting an autopsy.
