A known Washington-area drug dealer has been on the run for more than a year, and U.S. marshals are asking the public’s help to bring him in.
Bernard Byrd, 21, is wanted on three outstanding warrants in Washington and Maryland for violating his parole for drug-selling convictions.

“He’s truly a regional drug dealer, jumping across the line between Maryland and D.C.,” said Matthew Burke, supervisory inspector with the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. “That’s probably why he’s stayed off law enforcement’s radar. He may not have come into focus of a drug unit in D.C. or a drug unit of Maryland. But he will continue to sell drugs until we pick him up.”
Byrd has been on the run since November 2007. Byrd has had several arrests for selling drugs, sometimes while armed, in Northwest Washington, marshals said. He has lived in Northeast D.C. and Capitol Heights in Prince George’s County, and has used the alias Jarome Simmons in previous arrests.
Byrd is 6-foot-3, about 170 pounds.
Authorities hope the public will call in with Byrd’s location or that Byrd surrenders to U.S. marshals, Burke said.
Anyone with information on Byrd is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 301-489-1717 or 800-336-0102. Authorities are offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is composed of 28 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk, Va. The unit has captured more than 19,000 fugitives since its creation in 2004.
