Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in three hotel robberies after his getaway car broke down on the side of the road.

Around 3 a.m. Wednesday, shortly after an armed robbery of a Courtyard Marriott in Rockville, officers stopped to help a motorist on Shady Grove Road, but the man walked away. Police towed the car and learned that the vehicle matched the description in the robberies.

Johnnie A. Duvall, 45, was charged with robbing the Courtyard Marriott, a Holiday Inn in Gaithersburg on Sunday and a Comfort Inn on Dec. 23. In each case, the robber walked into the lobby, implied he had a weapon, demanded cash and fled with the money in a gold car. In two of the incidents, police said the robber assaulted the clerks.
