A D.C. man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for biting a police officer during a theft a Home Depot.

George Ball, 45, was convicted by a D.C. jury of felony assault on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with significant bodily injury.

In August 2010, Ball stole about $160 worth of merchandise, and attempted to fraudulently return the goods for money.

A struggle ensued with D.C. police Officer Anthony Wallace. Ball tried to grab the officer’s gun, and began biting him, leaving marks on the officer’s right thigh and left thumb, and splitting the officer’s thumbnail in half.

Ball already served an 180-day jail term for the theft.
