A Montgomery County police sergeant was charged with embezzling thousands of dollars in false payroll submissions.

Sgt. Jacqueline Davey turned herself in on a charge of felony theft. Detectives began looking at her time sheets in October when a reviewer found she had not been at work for a shift that she claimed she had. Over two years, police said, she fraudulently claimed more than $10,000 for work she never performed.

Davey, who joined the force in 1993, was suspended with pay in December and put on administrative leave. Officials put her on leave without pay pending trial.
