Father charged after toddler left alone

A father of a 2-year-old girl who was found alone in a filthy Capitol Heights apartment has been charged with reckless endangerment.

Prince George’s County police said 24-year-old Anthony Venson was also charged with leaving a child unattended and neglect of a minor.

The toddler’s mother, who was in a hospital, called police shortly after noon Tuesday after she was unable to reach the child’s father. Police went to the apartment in the 6900 block of Walker Mill Road, and found the girl alone in a back bedroom. She was surrounded by roaches and trash, and a space heater was left on, police said.

Two fugitive Columbia Heights gang members wanted in the slaying of a rival crew member were captured in North Carolina, police said.

Marcellus Jackson, 23, and Keir Johnson, 21, of the G-Rod gang on 14th and Girard, were among seven gang members indicted this month in connection with several gangland killings, including the slaying of a rival member near a funeral on U Street in 2010.

Both men were captured in Jacksonville, N.C., on Monday night, D.C. police said.

Reston burglar sought

Fairfax County police are asking for help identifying the man who has been burglarizing Reston-area homes since early April.

Police said the man has hit at least 11 homes, usually during the early-morning hours through unlocked doors or open garages.

He steals purses and electronics, and has used stolen credit cards at Maryland stores, authorities said.

He is described as black, 5-feet-7 and 170 pounds. He has short black hair, a mustache and may be driving a silver or light blue BMW 5 Series car.
