The U.S. senator who was charged with drunken driving in Alexandria over the weekend told the arresting officer that he had consumed several vodka shots, according to a criminal complaint.

Mike Crapo, an Idaho Republican, was stopped by an Alexandria police officer early Sunday morning, after his vehicle made a left turn at the intersection of Commonwealth and Mt. Vernon avenues when he had a red light.
