Mirwais Mohamadi, who told a hit man to kill a witness in Mohamadi’s robbery case even if the witness’ children were nearby, will spend the next 57 years behind bars.

The 28-year-old Springfield man was in the Alexandria jail on charges that he robbed a prostitute and then a taxi driver, when he tried to arrange to have the taxi driver killed. A federal jury in Alexandria convicted him of the murder-for-hire charges in March.

“The public has been terrorized by this defendant for over a decade,” prosecutors said of Mohamadi, who has been in and out of prison since he was 15 years old. “Mohamadi does not care about himself or anyone else.”

While incarcerated, Mohamadi was cited 85 times for violating jail policies, court documents said. Among the citations were assaults on other inmates and staff, and 21 threats. His fellow inmates eventually turned him in to federal authorities when they learned of Mohamadi’s attempts to have the taxi driver killed.
