U.S. Marshals are looking for a man accused of a 1997 killing in southeastern Virginia with ties to the D.C. area, and they are asking for the public’s help in finding him.

Twenty-one-year-old Carl Shawn Turner was gunned down at a house party in Suffolk, Va., attended by more than 50 people. No one could — or would — identify the killer, police said.

Turner’s slaying went unsolved until 2009 when police obtained enough evidence to get an arrest warrant for Lonnie Bowers, now 42. At the time, Bowers was on probation for assault of a police officer.

Now, marshals are asking the public for information that could lead to Bowers’ arrest.

“Bowers has been on the run for a very long time. Let’s give the victim the justice he deserves,” said Inspector Bob Hoffmaster of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Marshals believe Bowers could be the D.C. area, and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Bowers is listed as about 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds. He has tattoos, including a large one on his right forearm.

A $1,000 reward is available for information that leads to Bowers’ capture.

Anyone with information is urged to call Hoffmaster or the U.S. Marshals Service at 301-489-1717 or 800-336-0102.

Tips from readers of The Washington Examiner have led to the arrest of 35 wanted fugitives in the D.C. area in the past three years, including convicted murderers, kidnappers, child sex offenders, rapists and scam artists.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is composed of 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 33,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
