Silver Spring man pleads guilty in child porn case A Silver Spring has pleaded guilty to charges of distributing child pornography, admitting that he possessed nearly 900,000 explicit images and videos.

Gary Callis, 42, pleaded guilty in federal court in Greenbelt. Court records say that when agents searched his computer in February 2010, they found 866,000 images and 8,100 films that depicted the sexual abuse of children.

The investigation into Callis began when an undercover officer detected him sharing pornographic images in November and December 2009.

Callis also admitted to investigators that he sexually molested a teenage neighbor in 2000 and molested his girlfriend’s 7-year-old son in 2003, prosecutors said.

Three convicted in plan to kidnap bank worker

Three men have been convicted in a plot to kidnap a bank employee at gunpoint.

Prosecutors said 44-year-old Darrell Carter, 43-year-old Jeffrey Edelen and 40-year-old Kendall Taylor broke into the home of a woman who worked at a D.C. bank on Jan. 13 and held the woman and her son at gunpoint. They planned to take the woman to the bank and force her to help the men obtain money.

The child called his father, who then called police, when he heard the men banging on the door. Police arrived before the abductors and woman left the house.
