Former diplomat charged with embezzling $125,000
A former diplomat for the Chad Embassy was charged with embezzling more than $125,000 from the diplomatic office, according to filings in U.S. District Court.
Prosecutors said that in 2004, Abdoulaye Beri used his position as interim ambassador to the U.S. to fraudulently write 28 checks on the embassy’s checking account to himself, his spouse and their apartment complex in Hyattsville. He was charged with interstate transportation of stolen securities.
Man charged with illegally selling piranha on Internet
A Chantilly man was charged with illegally selling a piranha over the Internet, Fairfax County police said.
Animal control investigators saw a posting on Craigslist for the sale of red belly piranha, a fish indigenous to the Amazon River Basin and known for its razor-sharp teeth capable of stripping flesh from prey.
Police charged Dung Nguyen, 36, with offering to sell 30 nonnative exotic animals.

Police look into attempted rape of 73-year-old woman
Montgomery County police are investigating an attempted rape of a 73-year-old woman in Rockville.
At about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the woman was walking her dog between Gladstone Drive and Calvin Park when a man grabbed her. The woman struck the man in the face and he fled.
The suspect was a Hispanic male in his late teens to 20s, 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with light skin with very dark, straight eyebrows. He was wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt and dark blue sweatpants.

Pedestrian hit-and-run death under investigation
Prince George’s County police are investigating the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Fort Washington.
At about 8:20 a.m. Monday, police responded to a call and found the body of 50-year-old Michael Sorber in the roadway at Old Fort Road and Indian Head Highway.
Police are asking anyone with information on the case to call investigators at 301-772-4422.
