Fairfax County dad charged in daughter’s death

A 21-year-old Vienna man has been charged with child abuse in the death of his 2-month-old daughter, and more charges could be coming. Fairfax County police said officers responded to the 7500 block of Parkwood Court in the Falls Church area around 4 p.m. Sunday, where paramedics were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an infant. The girl, Amber Reed, was taken to a local hospital with injuries, where she died Monday. Fairfax County police charged Francis Reed with child abuse on Monday, and said he now might face additional charges.

Good Samaritans sought in shooting

Prince George’s County police are seeking two people who helped with a traffic accident that led to the police-involved shooting of a Odenton teenager. The crash happened Saturday after a suspect, Keston Lewis, 19, stabbed a driver of a Porsche. Lewis fled in another car and got involved in a multicar crash in Takoma Park, police said. Lewis then tried to carjack a red BMW belonging to a woman who stopped to offer aid, police said. Another man intervened and got into a confrontation with the suspect, police said. Lewis struggled with a Takoma Park police officer. A fellow officer, fearing for the officer’s safety, shot Lewis. He later died at a hospital.

Accused WH shooter due in court Friday

The hearing in federal court in D.C. for a man accused of trying to assassinate President Obama was moved to Friday to hear more evidence about his mental health. Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez of Idaho is accused of firing an assault rifle at the White House last month. Police said Ortega-Hernandez believed he was Jesus and that Obama the devil. A preliminary psychiatric screening found Ortega-Hernandez competent to stand trial, but prosecutors are seeking more tests.
