A scholarship fund has been established for the children of a Maryland State Police trooper who died on duty earlier this month.
Trooper 1st Class Shaft Hunter, 39, was killed in an early-morning crash on Interstate 95 in Howard County on May 21.
The Marine Corps veteran who had worked for the state police for 11 years left behind six children, ages 4 to 19. The scholarship fund is being set up to pay for their educations.
Donations can be made at any M&T Bank in Maryland or mailed to 207 Bowie Road, Laurel, MD 20707.
Hunter died when he struck a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of the highway. He appeared to have been chasing a speeding motorcycle at the time, police said.
