4 officers indicted in D.C. nightclub assault

Four D.C. police officers were indicted Wednesday in connection with an assault at a Northwest D.C. nightclub, police said.

Early in the morning of June 10, 2011, two patrons of Lotus nightclub at 1420 K Street NW became involved in a fight with several people, some of whom were thought to be bouncers. One of the patrons was taken to a hospital after the incident, police said.

When police were reviewing video from the club, detectives believed they saw that First District officers Kenneth McRavin, Thaddeus Modlin and Nikeith Goins were involved in the incident. The detectives confirmed the officers’ identities and learned they were off-duty at the time.

Nine people were indicted Wednesday for their involvement in the incident, including four First District officers. Officer Yolanda Lampkin was indicted in addition to McRavin, Modlin and Goins.

“This is a harsh reminder for all law enforcement personnel that just because we are trusted with enforcing laws, that doesn’t mean we are exempt from abiding by the same laws and standards as the people we serve, on or off duty,” D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement.
