D.C. man gets 8 years for shooting transgendered woman

A District man was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for shooting a transgendered woman in the neck.
Police said the 26-year-old victim picked up 21-year-old Darryl Willard in her car near 22nd and Savanna streets SE on Sept. 12. The victim declined his request to have sex.
Willard got out of the car, pointed a gun at the woman and said, “Give me what you got. Where’s your money at?”
The victim refused to give Willard her money, and Willard fired. The shot hit her in the right side of her neck, punctured both lungs and lodged near her heart where it remains.
Woman struck, killed leaving vehicle in Tysons Corner
Fairfax County police say a woman was struck and killed after she got out of her vehicle on a busy roadway in Tysons Corner.
Police said 59-year-old Kil Sun Flom was driving on Leesburg Pike near Spring Hill Road, stopped and got out of her car after hitting a pumper truck while she was trying to merge into the center lane at about 1 p.m. Monday.
Flom, of Dale City, then exited her vehicle and was struck by the truck, whose driver didn’t see her.
Police: Man hid overnight at Sears to steal from cash register
A man hid overnight at a White Oak Sears store to break into the cash registers, according to Montgomery County police.
Daniel Ezeikial Grant was charged with second-degree burglary and theft, and will be charged at a similar burglaries of Sears stores at Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg and in Columbia last weekend, police said.
Police responded to an alarm at the Sears store at the White Oak Shopping Center, 11255 New Hampshire Ave., shortly after midnight Monday. Store surveillance cameras revealed that a man was in the store when it closed. He hid while employees closed up the business. He stole an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
