Black Panthers killed on UCLA campus

On this day, Jan. 17, in 1969, Black Panther Party leader Alprentice “Bunchy” Carter and aide John Huggins Jr. were killed during a meeting on the campus of the University of California at Los Angeles.

The group was meeting in a small dining hall to discuss choosing a director for the planned African-American studies program at UCLA when an argument broke out.
