Redskin stabber sentenced

 

A man who stabbed Washington Redskins kick returner Brandon Banks outside a D.C. nightclub has been sentenced to three months in jail for the attack.

Jason Shorter, 25, admitted in D.C. Superior Court to getting in a fight with Banks and a friend outside The Park, a nightclub on 14th Street in Northwest Washington in February 2011.

Shorter pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Banks and Christopher Nixon.

Shorter will have to spend an additional three months for a May 2001 incident in which he was pulled over for speeding and charged with carrying a pistol without a license.

Survivor of fiery crash charged

A passenger of a fiery crash that killed three people in Chevy Chase has been charged in the theft of the vehicle.

Reeco Richardson, 18, was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft and other related charges.

Montgomery County police say Richardson was a front-seat passenger of a stolen Toyota Echo being pursued by police during the early morning of March 23. The car drove south on Connecticut Avenue from East West Highway and crashed into a tree at Chevy Chase Circle.

The Toyota became engulfed in flames. Killed were the driver, Reynard Osman, 16, and passengers Emanuel Nelson, 16, and Tyree Nelson, 14.

Capitol police chief to retire

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Phillip D. Morse has announced plans to retire at the end of May.

Morse has served as chief since 2006 and has spent 28 years with the agency. The Washington Post reported that Morse is taking a job in the private sector, but he didn’t specify what the new position would be.

The Capitol police, which handles security for all congressional facilities, has about 1,775 officers.
