Richmond police say hours after Jay Bertrand, 47, was released from a hospital he got into another crash.
Bertrand’s family says he has serious back problems, and his back locked up on him before he drove into the Krispy Kreme. He was taken to a hospital but refused treatment, police said.
Hours later, Bertrand got into another accident, this time in his wife’s car. They say he first failed to move when a light turned green, causing a woman in a vehicle behind him to drive around him. When she stopped at an intersection, Bertrand ran into the back of her vehicle, police said.
Bertrand is facing charges of reckless driving for the Krispy Kreme incident and driving under the influence of drugs for the second crash.

Bank robber’s hours
A Chicago bank teller foiled a robbery by telling a woman with a demand note that the bank was closed, the FBI says.
When Olga Perdomo returned to the same bank five days later, she was arrested and charged with attempting to rob the bank.
According to federal prosecutors, Perdomo had passed a note to the teller asking for “all of your money, no cops, no dye pack” on March 29, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The teller told Perdomo that the bank was closing and to come back the next day.
Several days later, another bank employee recognized Perdomo outside the business. She was with another man who had been charged with robbing the same bank of $2,589 on March 23, according to the Chicago Tribune.
