What started as a common complaint about loud music in Temple Hills turned into an all-out melee with police, resulting in the injury of two officers, the arrest of eight people, the recovery of more than $15,000 in drugs and the discovery of a 1-year-old hidden in a closet.

It started about 11 p.m. Friday. Two Prince George’s County police officers responded to an apartment on the 3000 block of Brinkley Road and asked the party to turn down the music. The occupants complied — initially.

But before the cops could return to their squad cars, someone cranked up the volume, and the officers returned to the apartment.

“The next minute, the officers were physically attacked; they had unwittingly uncovered, stumbled upon a drug operation,” said Prince George’s County police Maj. James Harper. “We are very thankful that they were not more seriously injured,” police said.

One of the officers broadcast a distress call over the police radio, and the reinforcements helped bring the situation under control, police said. Police noticed various drug paraphernalia inside the home, and detectives from the Narcotic Enforcement Division obtained a search and seizure warrant. Police recovered more than $15,000 worth of marijuana, PCP and Ecstacy. Officers also seized $1,200 in cash.

Inside a bedroom closet, police found an 1-year-old child. The child was uninjured and placed into safe custody.

Patrol Officer Ebony Richardson, a five-year veteran, received stitches to her head. Twenty-year veteran Cpl. Cosandra Carr was treated for injuries to her arm and released from the hospital.

Erica Lucus, 28, of Temple Hills, was charged with assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, numerous drug charges and reckless endangerment of a child. Kevin Quander, 26, and Lamont Quander, 28, were charged with assault and drug charges.

The following were charged with distribution and possession of drug charges. Marvin Johnson, 28, of D.C.; Tarin Walker, 25, of D.C., Renardo Barnett, 23, of Waldorf, Kiyona Marshall, 23, of Waldorf; and Lashawna Lytle-Quander, 28, of Laurel.
