Court of Appeals agrees to hear arguments in pants case

The D.C. Court of Appeals has agreed to hear oral arguments seeking a new trial by the former administrative law judge, Roy L. Pearson Jr.

Pearson, who has became a symbol for runaway litigation, will be allowed to make his case Oct. 22. People who want to listen can go to dcappeals.gov/dccourts/appeals/calendar/index.jsp.

A legal expert said Pearson will likely argue that the court wrongfully dismissed his case based on the dollar amount of the claim rather than the validity of his lawsuit.

The court last year rejected Pearson’s claim that he was defrauded by the owners of the Custom Cleaners, Soo and Jin Chung, and their “Satisfaction Guaranteed” sign.

During the dry-cleaner trial, Pearson broke down on the stand when he tried to describe how he learned that he’d never see his pants again.

Pearson also is suing the D.C. government for his job back.
