A convicted sex offender was found guilty of abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl after DNA linked him to the 2000 crime. Lawrence Gibson, 42, of D.C., forced the girl into his car in February 2000 as she was on her way to a friend’s house in the 4900 block of Benning Road SE. He drove her to a dark parking lot, raped and beat her, then threw the girl from the car and sped off, prosecutors said. Eleven years after the assault, D.C. police received information lead that led them to Gibson. A DNA sample was obtained from him that confirmed him as the girl’s attacker, prosecutors said. Gibson also had been found guilty of a felony sex offense in 2001, prosecutors said.
