Student shot heading to school in Southeast D.C.

An 18-year-old girl was shot in Southeast Washington while on her way to school, police said.

The incident took place about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 1400 block of Morris Road SE. The teen was walking to catch a Metrobus so that she could get to Phelps Architecture, Construction and Engineering High School. She had been shot in the leg, and her bag was taken. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
