A D.C. teenager pleaded guilty to stealing a Metrobus.

William Jackson, 19, admitted Wednesday in D.C. Superior Court to one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle. Jackson faces up to five years in prison at his sentencing in November.

Jackson admitted that July 9, he boarded a bus at a lot in Northeast Washington wearing a Metrobus uniform, and began driving public streets, picking up and dropping off passengers. The joy ride ended when he lost control of the bus and it crashed into a tree along 17th Street Southeast.

After the crash, Jackson tried to leave the scene and took off his bus operator’s shirt.
