Wheaton murder suspect turns self in

A suspect in a fatal shooting in Wheaton has turned himself in, Montgomery County police said. Police said Corey D. Yates, of the 3200 block of 10th Place SE, has been charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 21 shooting death of 19-year-old Doodley Derose. Yates, 21, turned himself in around 1 a.m. Tuesday to the Montgomery County Detention Center, police said.

Derose died at a local hospital after he was shot on the 1600 block of Hutchinson Lane.

Police are still looking for another suspect, who is described as a black man in his early 20s and about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall. He has a thin build and possibly a star tattoo on his face. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-773-5070.
