Stabbing death of Leesburg man still unsolved

Jammie Lane was found fatally stabbed in his Northern Virginia home three years ago, but his slaying remains a mystery.

Leesburg police have not ruled out whether Lane was a victim of a serial stabber suspected in a string of 18 attacks in three states. The man authorities believed to be the so-called “serial slasher,” Elias Abuelazam, lived in the same neighborhood as Lane and the two men knew each other, police said.

Abuelazam is considered only a person of interest in the Lane case at this time, police said, and detectives are looking at all possibilities.

Police are offering a reward of $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

“It would be nice if someone would come forward to close this case and provide the family some closure,” said Leesburg Police Officer Christopher Tidmore.

Lane was well-known around his community, and many neighbors described him as a genuinely nice and caring person who would stop and help anyone, Tidmore said.

Lane was found dead in his home on March 26, 2009. He was stabbed multiple times, police said.

Abuelazam, 35, became a person of interest in Lane’s murder after he became a suspect in a series of stabbings and killings of mostly black victims in Michigan and Ohio.

Abuelazam was arrested at an Atlanta airport in August 2010. He is scheduled to go to trial next month for a fatal stabbing in Michigan.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Leesburg Police Department at 703-771-4502 or the Leesburg Crime Line at 703-443-TIPS (8477).
