Two Montgomery County police officers are on administrative leave as detectives investigate the shooting deaths of two Montgomery Village residents Saturday night.
Officer Sandra Moss, a nine-year veteran, and Officer Kenneth Moreau, a three-year veteran, are on leave that is standard following an officer-related shooting, police said.
The two were among other officers who arrived at the 9400 block of Vineyard Haven Drive around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to help calm an argument between a man and a woman that had escalated into an armed hostage situation.
Police found the man and woman in a garage. The man was threatening the woman with a firearm and holding her against her will, police said.
As officers spoke with the man in an attempt to calm the situation, shots rang out and the man and woman died at the scene. It remains unclear who fired weapons.
The identities of the deceased had not been released as of Sunday evening pending notification of the families.
