A convicted sex offender with a violent past has been on the run for four years, and U.S. marshals are asking for the public’s assistance to capture him.

Andre Troy Stevenson, 46, is wanted for failure to register as a sexually violent offender in Charles County. Stevenson was convicted of a sex offense involving a 15-year-old boy and is required to check in with the Charles County sheriff’s office regularly and notify it of any changes of address.

In March 2005, Stevenson took off without notifying authorities and has not been seen since. The U.S. marshals’ Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force has been asked to help locate and arrest Stevenson. Now, marshals are asking for the public’s

help.

“It’s time for him to be brought in,” said Matt Burke, supervisor of the fugitive task force.

Investigators believe Stevenson is still in the Maryland suburbs. Stevenson likely has stayed under the radar of law enforcement officials by slipping back and forth between the District of Columbia and Maryland, Burke said.

Stevenson used to live on Jackson Hole Place in White Plains, Md., La Plata and Northeast Washington, police said. He has a history of arrests on charges of armed robbery and fraud in the District.

Police describe Stevenson as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 185 pounds.

Anyone with information about Stevenson’s whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 301-489-1717 or 800-336-0102. Law enforcement is offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is composed of 28 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 20,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
