On this day, Nov. 29, in 1998, a Cuban immigrant claimed he was beaten by two police officers in a Miami suburb. The officers, brothers Rolando Bolanos Jr. and Daniel Bolanos, were sons of Hialeah’s then-Police Chief Rolando Bolanos. Yoel Pacheco, a 23-year-old welder with no criminal record, claimed the two men handcuffed him and beat him in a parking lot.

The case illustrated heightened tensions between police and the Cuban community, but in the end, the Bolanos brothers were both acquitted of the charges.

Last year, Rolando Bolanos Jr. was accused of robbing a bank in the Miami area. Authorities say he made off with $2,400.

Twenty minutes after the robbery, police said Bolanos deposited $2,200 into his bank account.
