Nicki Minaj cites higher suicide risks for opposition to transgender surgeries for minors

Rapper Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity to speak out against transgender medical procedures for children.

Minaj said on Tuesday she “personally” doesn’t have an issue with “the trans part” of the LGBT community. She added that she is “the biggest advocate” for adults being allowed to do “whatever the heck they want to do.”

“They’re adults, I don’t care. I only mentioned something because when it comes to children, I wouldn’t even allow my 17-year-old daughter to get breast implants, and most, 99% of the parents would not let their 17-year-old child get breast implants,” Minaj said on The Katie Miller Podcast.

“So if you wouldn’t let a child get breast implants, you’re not going to want them to have any kind of surgery because we all know the brain is not developed.”

Minaj also said, “We’ve heard” how children are 19 times more likely to commit suicide after getting surgeries related to transgender ideology, and asked, “What more do you need to know?”

The rapper also spoke about her life as a wife and mother, saying she “always wanted” to be married and become a mother. She said marriage and motherhood made her life as both a rapper and a human being “a lot more fulfilling.”

“I would recommend that people do it because, you know, after a while, no matter how much fame or fortune you get, nothing, and I mean nothing, feels better than going home to the people you love and the people who love you and the people who know you and understand you, you know?” Minaj said. “It’s just a very fulfilling feeling.”

Minaj married Kenneth Petty in October 2019, and the couple had a son in September 2020, according to People.

The topic of transgender procedures for children has received increased scrutiny in recent years. Talk show host Dr. Phil said in February 2024 that it is “interesting” how the medical industry refers to gender surgeries for children as “gender-affirming care,” and said, “I thought that the deal was: ‘First do no harm.’”

Likewise, billionaire and X owner Elon Musk spent recent years speaking out against transgender surgeries for minors, saying in March 2023, anyone “who sterilizes a child before they are a consenting adult should go to prison for life.” He was also very critical of a California law banning schools from notifying parents if their child starts identifying as another gender in July 2024, citing this law as “the final straw” for why SpaceX would move its headquarters from California to Texas.

On Friday, a New York jury handed a $2 million judgment to a woman who accused a psychologist and surgeon of rushing her into gender transition surgery as a minor, finding the pair liable for malpractice in a landmark case.
