The United States has seen a steep decline in gambling over the past decade, a surprising result given the proliferation of online sports betting.

A Gallup poll found just 45% of people had partaken in one or more forms of gambling over the past year, compared to 64% in 2016. Previous polls going back to 2003 had the proportion of people who partook in gambling hovering steadily around two-thirds of the population, only to plummet to less than half as of 2026.
